Same ole Same ole
It's been an uneventful weekend. Nothing big, no drama. Sitting here at the end of it, just before I head to bed and climb under the covers, I'm struck by what a blessing sameness is. Here's what comes to mind, that I have to be thankful for this weekend:
Sleeping in Saturday morning, til the sun woke me up.
Weather that was so perfect I hated to see the day end.
Church on Saturday night, singing worship songs, taking communion, with our daughter and son-in-law standing next to us (a new pleasure). Going to the church nursery to pick up our grandson, Landon, and seeing him smile to recognize me.
Watching a movie, while eating a pizza with same daughter and SIL, in their living room. Fun date.
Going outside to watch our town's fireworks (which we couldn't see) and there was such a show of fireflies it looked like tiny sparklers scattered through the trees. Amazing.
Driving by the mall, seeing a deer grazing on the hillside, right next to the road.
Our birdfeeders being emptied faster than you can believe, with all the babies who've just learned to fly. The deck is alive with birdsong, literally, and most of them don't mind our presence.
A nice long catch-up email from a dear friend several states away.
Sleeping in again Sunday morning (might be hard not to hate me here....)
A nice long chat with Sarah over Sunday morning coffee.
Sharing the Sunday morning paper and omelets with my sweet husband on the deck.
Sitting at my desk, balancing the checkbook, while I watched Don go up and down the lawn, mowing the grass, then going outside and taking in that smell. Nothing like it!
Taking in a matinee, and eating the whole bucket of popcorn before the movie even started.
Spending a good thirty minutes leaning over the neighbor's fence, catching up on the news, and trading dates to watch each other's four-legged family members.
So another summer weekend is history, never to pass by again. Thank you God, for the small gifts you give us every day. Gifts that cannot be wrapped up, but are true treasures.
